Free Single Of The Week: Tinariwen

James Oakwood
0 comments  03 April 2007

This week’s free single from the iTunes Store is a bit of an oddity, but the mix of rural African music and American blues is an infectious one that demands a listen.

Love it or hate it, but it’s impossible to ignore Cler Achel from the African band Tinariwen. The band have been playing together since the early 80s and are regulars in music festivals such as Womad and the Cambridge Folk Festival.

Tinariwen recorded their first CD in 2000 (which was the first commercially available release from the band outside of Africa) and also proudly claim to be the first band from the Tuareg region of Africa to use electric guitars.

For the band’s official site, go here.

And for a video of them performing with Santana, go here.
