iPod sales continue to rise

Despite fresh challenges from the likes of Zune and the hype surrounding iPhone, Apple announced yesterday that they’ve had their best holiday season yet with iPod.
In the three months leading up to 30 December, they shipped over 21 million iPods worldwide – which is a jump of nearly 30 per cent over the same period last year – and brings the total amount of iPods around the world to a staggering 90 million.
Taking a closer look at the figures, Apple’s net income rose to $1 billion from $565 a year earlier and sales jumped a massive 24 per cent to $7.12 billion.
In a statement on Apple’s website, Steve Jobs, the company’s CEO, commented: “We are incredibly pleased to report record quarterly revenue. We’ve just kicked off what is going to be a very strong new product year for Apple by launching Apple TV and the revolutionary iPhone.”
