BBC shows come to iTunes

Thankfully, for once, the rumours were true, as the BBC yesterday added several of its top shows to the iTunes Store. And streaming for the iPhone is coming, too…
It was a good rumour and, as with all good rumours, we naturally hoped it was based on fact, rather than the random mutterings of a iTunes obsessive. Thankfully though, it was 100 per cent fact, as yesterday the BBC added nine of its best home-grown shows to the UK iTunes Store as a UK exclusive.
Costing a fairly reasonable £1.89 per show (although the per-show price does drop slightly if you buy the entire series), there are some older classics as well as the latest episodes of current shows – like Ashes to Ashes, which are added eight days after they’re aired.
And it’s easy to pick highlights too, as Spooks, Life on Mars, the afore-mentioned Ashes to Ashes and The Mighty Boosh are all excellent. We’d even be tempted to download the odd episode of Robin Hood – especially the one where Marion chews the scenery in fine style as she convulses and hams her way through her own death scene.
iPlayer for iPhone The BBC has also revealed that it’s planning to offer streaming of its iPlayer viewer to iPhones and iPod touches. iPlayer, which allows users to either view streams of recently aired shows on the website or download them (PC only) has been an enormous success for the Beeb, with over 17 million shows being streamed in the first seven weeks of the service.
The list of shows added is as follows:
Spooks (Series 6)
The Mighty Boosh (Series 2)
Life on Mars (Series 2)
The Catherine Tate Show (Series 3)
Torchwood (Series 2)
Ashes to Ashes (Series 1)
Little Britain (Series 3)
Robin Hood (Series 2)
Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps (Series 7)
