I recently reformatted my computer and wanted to transfer the playlists from my iPod to my comp. I went searching far and wide for a program would do that. Somehow I endedup loading some corrupt playlist on my iPod or some other thing happened. All I know now is that my iPod would continuously reset. The startup screen would come up the LEDs would light with still the apple logo, then it would reset to begin the process over again. The soft reset did not cure the problem. I ended up needing to open up my iPod and unplug the battery. It's a video iPod so I purchased a Toshiba 1.8" HD enclosure to see if I can reformat the drive.
While I wait for it to come in the mail, I want so see if there are any thoughts on my problem. Is it the HD? Can the problem be solved by reformatting the drive? Will iTunes reload the software on to the HD after the reformat? Could the iPod firmware be corrupted instead of the HD? Other solutions, aside from purchasing a new iPod?
Thanks! |

Quick note: I just discovered the diagnostic mode, the auto test yielded no errors, so I am leaning more on the side of HD software problem, but if there are still ideas and answers to my Q's, please.
Thanks |

I'm going to have to think about this one, as it's quite a tricky problem. Initially, I would have gone for a software error, but the fact that the diagnostic mode didn't show up anything writes that off.
There's a very strong chance that reformatting the HD will cure it, but you'll obviously lose all your iPod's library.
If it's possible, I'd try to update your iPod's firmware in the short term and I'll ponder further in the meantime.

I's funny, secondary to the diagnostic mode, I found the disk mode. The disk mode allowed iTunes to recognize it and reload the software interface on the iPod. lost my library and playlists, but I have my library on my desktop. Thanks for the help |

Glad it's all sorted now. There are few iPod-related problems that can't be cured by one of the various diagnostic modes. |

I've fixed loads of pods in that way - Disk Mode is great as it allows iTunes to see the player without it having to load the OS. You can then Restore it from there :-) works a treat. |
