Well, is it? Or maybe it's just a little bit poorly. Or is there something about it that you just need help with? Post your query here and wait for the Collective help machine to kick into life...

Hi Green70. This is one of those tricky iPod queries that's not easy to answer. To start with, have you installed any unusual software on your iPod? Does it skip through all tracks or just some? Have you tried resetting the iPod yet (hold down the Menu and Centre button until the Apple logo appears)?

If your pod skips songs then most likely it's hard drive has bad sectors on it. These might be repairable but you'd have to take the drive out and connect it to a PC and run drive repair software on it. However most of the time the drive is beyond repair in my experience as it's unusual to have just a few bad sectors on the Toshiba drives Apple use - more often there are hundreds. If there are more than 50 dead sectors then your drive is officially toast. However an off-the-shelf drive will work in a 4th gen pod so it's easy to replace it, and you could even upgrade it at the same time! Watch out for new drives from Seagate soon...

ifixpods - thanks for your help. As it would appear that you fix iPods, feel free to post up an email address so that people with broken iPods can contact you.

I'd suggest the best place for hints and tips would be this site and it's forums where I'll be happy to dispense free advice on any ipod woes. Or if you'd like me to repair your pod (or just upgrade the battery) for you then please get in touch on fixmipod@googlemail.com. Cheers!
