More rumours on the new iPod

The online buzz for a new iPod is picking up pace, with two fresh stories indicating that Apple may be launching it sooner than we might initially have thought…
Firstly, the rumour website DigiTimes reported that the circuit board manufacturer Compeq has won the contract to produce the PCBs for the new iPod. The website claims that Compeq will begin manufacturing the boards in August for a proposed launch date in September.
Secondly, speculation amongst investors seemed to indicate that Apple were about to slash production of the iPod or iPhone by as much as 50 per cent, which knocked over $4 from the price of Apple shares yesterday.
It’s worth remembering though, that Apple traditionally cut the production of an older product when they’re about to launch a new one.
Apple are rumoured to be announcing new products on 7 August, but these are likely to be new iMacs rather than anything iPod-related.
