Touchscreen iPods due in August?

The Digitimes website claims that Apple are about to release a brand new iPod next month, but what do you want first: The good news or the bad news?
According to the report, suppliers claim that the Taiwanese company Wintek will supply the panels for the new iPod video and that it will be released worldwide as soon as August…
The Good News It’s no secret that Apple are working on new iPods, and it also won’t surprise many to hear that Apple will use the Multitouch technology as a feature. Reports vary, but the wise money is on an announcement from the company much later in the year, or maybe at the Macworld show in January 2008.
The Bad News With the iPhone now launched, hype is beginning to build up again for the iPod. While all of us would be delighted with a video iPod in August, the facts don’t quite stack up – Apple would have needed to secure product deals much earlier for the parts.
Of course, we’d be the first to eat our hastily spoken words if a new iPod does actually appear, we’re going to be overly cautious and go with the majority for a release late 2007.
