Celebrities line up for iPhone

Being famous usually guarantees you all manner of freebies but not so with the iPhone, as there were some familiar faces to be found in the queues on Friday evening…
While one publicist failed spectacularly to ‘blag’ an iPhone for her celebrity client (which, in case you were interested, was Cher), the majority of America’s A-listers decided to do the decent thing and join the queues along with everyone else.
The queue at the Apple store in Soho was headed by director Spike Lee, who was there on behalf of Keep A Child Alive, a charity that supports children with HIV. His iPhone was later auctioned off. At the same store was Whoopi Goldberg, who gave every indication that she wasn’t entirely sure what she was doing there.
Bizarrely, the Mayor of Philadelphia was third in line in his city’s store, and had been in the queue since 3:30am – although we suspect that he was more interested in the publicity than the actual phone.
The Apple Store in San Jose had another celebrity in its ranks… Woz. The co-founder of Apple decided that rather than take the free phone offered by Steve Jobs, it’d be much more entertaining to queue up for one, so Woz and a few friends camped overnight in the mall and played on his Segway for most of the night.
Finally, if you had headed over to the Grove store in LA, then you’d have caught director Kevin Smith and Jackass star Johnny Knoxville in the queues.
