Half-a-million iPhones sold in first weekend
James Oakwood
0 comments 03 July 2007
Various reports online claim that Apple and AT&T sold between 500,000 and 700,000 iPhones in their stores over the launch weekend.
With most US stores reporting queues in their hundreds, it’s unsurprising to find that the majority of them sold out completely in the first day.
Even so, this is encouraging news for Steve Jobs and Apple, as some analysts were concerned that the iPhone’s relatively high price point could put off purchasers.
The real testing time though is in the weeks and months ahead, when the hype for the phone dies down. Can Apple continue to sell strongly and reach their projected sales figures of 10 million iPhones by the end of 2008? Only time will tell.
