Vodafone still favourite for iPhone

A Dutch magazine claims that Vodafone are still front runners to carry the iPhone in Europe, but there are conditions that are delaying the confirmation of the deal.
According to the magazine Bright, Apple are demanding guaranteed sales figures for the iPhone in Europe, while Vodafone want to be able to set the price of the iPhone themselves. Apparently neither company is currently willing to compromise with its demands.
While other companies have been mentioned (including orange and T-Mobile), Apple are keen to work with Vodafone in Europe, which is more than likely due to the fact that the British company have access to the 3G network – something that Apple is keen to run with in the future.
The iPhone will be running AT&T’s EDGE Internet system in the US, which has been criticised for being too slow. While 3G is much quicker, Apple believe that the power of 3G is currently too much of a battery drain for the iPhone.
Hopes are high though that improvements can be made with the 3G service, and that Apple can offer it with the iPhone when it’s launched in Europe in the autumn.
