Jobs Talks iPhone During Keynote Speech

Apple CEO Steve Jobs revealed new details about the iPhone during his keynote address at the World Wide Developer Conference in San Francisco yesterday.
Although response to the full address was somewhat muted, resulting in a 3.5% share price drop, the crowd were clearly eager for the iPhone, which has been confirmed for a June 29th launch.
While it won’t be possible for developers to write software to run directly from the iPhone home screen, Jobs confirmed that they will be able to write and sell programs that run using the device’s Web browser. Support for Web 2.0 standards means that developers will be able to make full use of the handset’s phone, email and map services.
“Developers and users alike are going to be very surprised and pleased at how great these applications look and work on iPhone,” said Jobs. “Our innovative approach, using Web 2.0-based standards, lets developers create amazing new applications while keeping the iPhone secure and reliable.”
