Apple is set to launch the first ever iTunes Festival, with 60 of the world’s biggest artists already lined up to play through July.

Entry for all the concerts, taking place at the Institute Of Contemporary Arts, will be free, but tickets will only be available as prizes in a series of competitions. Just 150 pairs of tickets will be made available for each concert. “This is not just another festival,” says an Apple spokesperson. “Tickets for these intimate gigs cannot be bought. Instead, you will have the chance to win tickets and see your idols perform live.”

Mika will launch the festival on July 1st, with artists include the newly reformed Crowded House, Amy Winehouse, Groove Armada, Stereophonics, Beverley Knight, Travis and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club set to play on subsequent nights. Each artist and band performance will be recorded and subsquently be made available for sale via inTunes. Apple also plans to post a festival blog, and offering podcasts, interview, and concert photos throughout July.
