Europe won’t get Zune soon

Microsoft’s CEO, Steve Ballmer, told German media that their Zune MP3 player won’t be released in Europe in 2007, due to poor sales since its American release.
Despite plenty of hype and a couple of original features (mainly the WiFi song sharing feature), the Zune has failed to capture the hearts of the MP3 player-buying market in the US. It took six months to sell a million units Stateside and Microsoft haven’t made as much of a dent in Apple’s enormous market share as they obviously would have hoped to.
The general feeling is that Microsoft will ditch all plans of releasing the first generation Zune in Europe, and instead wait until the second model is available. This is rumoured to be a Flash-based device with better WiFi features, and it tentatively pencilled in for a release date towards the end of the year in America.
