iPod continues to dominate MP3 market

Figures recently released clearly show that Apple is in no mood to lose any of their hard-fought market share in the crowded MP3 player market.
Despite tough competition and new launches from the likes of Microsoft and SanDisk, a report in Bloomsberg showed that the iPod held its own in the month of March.
Sales of MP3 players that month in the US reached nearly a quarter of a billion dollars, and the iPod (obviously) came top, with 68.9% of the market share. Second was SanDisk, with 11.2% and in fourth place was Microsoft, who only managed to get 2.5% of the market.
Although the iPod’s market share has dropped slightly in its main area (the US), it’s also worth remembering that they haven’t launched a serious update to their range for quite some time, and analysts (and the rest of the world) are expecting Apple to release new a new nano and 6G iPod later this year.
