Teenage girl develops new iPod peripheral, iPod market forecasted to grow still further, more moaning European chiefs and two more ‘spot the difference’ iPod clones…
16-year-old develops the ultimate iPod add-on One of the major selling points of Microsoft’s Zune could soon be made redundant if a 16-year-old American girl has her way. SnoopTunes is a small lozenge-shaped device that attaches to the iPod and allows you to share its library wirelessly to anyone else possessing a SnoopTunes adaptor within a 15 foot radius. Amazingly, the idea was initially developed by a 16-year-old girl and if this sounds a bit like an early April Fool’s gag, check out the video proof here. The SnoopTunes isn’t quite ready for general release, but you’d be wise to keep an eye out for this one. [Story via Gizmodo]
Analysts predict iPod sales will continue to grow The portable media player market will continue to grow 5.5 per cent over the next year, from 216.9 million units to 268.6 million, according to analyst firm iSuppli. The company also confidently predict that the rise of media-friendly mobile phones will have little impact. iSuppli’s Chris Crotty commented: “The future of PMP/MP3 players is bright due to continued hardware cost reductions, the rapid growth of online video and audio content and new offerings that will make it easier for users to access and download such online media.” [Story via MacWorld]
Europe still moaning about DRM Apple have been under attack once again from Europeans concerning its digital rights management software. This time the European Union consumer chief Meglena Kuneva has criticised the company in the German magazine, Focus. In a recent interview, Kuneva said: “Do you think it’s fine that a CD plays in all CD players but that an iTunes song only plays in an iPod? I don’t. Something has to change.” You can read more about this story here but we hope that you won’t bother, as you must be as bored of all this misinformed ranting as we are.
The attack of the clones The American online retailer, DealExtreme, has begun selling two of the most blatant iPod clones we’ve seen for quite some time. The Shuffle2-Style (see it here) retails for $19 and has a 1GB memory, while the Nano2-Style (see it here) has the same amount of memory and will set you back $26.50. [Story via iLounge]
