Nano News: Friday, 9 March

A very unique iPod keyring, Royal not allowed to buy an iPod, top iTunes plug-in Filter heading to Mac and three thieves in oversized trousers… it’s all in Nano News.

Perfect pod present
What do you get the person who has everything? How about a handmade ‘Pod Plush’ keyring? They’re only £6 and they’re available here. Hurry though, as they’re running out of stock very quickly. Thanks to Monkey for sending in the details for this one.

Royally refused
You’d imagine that, of all people, Prince Harry should be able to buy an iPod wherever he wanted to. Not so though, as he recently found out when he tried to buy one at a shop on an RAF base. Apparently, the rules say that you have to be either a US serviceman or a family member to use the shop, and as he was neither, he was refused. It didn’t help that the embarrassed shop assistant didn’t recognise the young Prince, either. Lt Col David A Konop, a spokesperson for the US Forces, said: "I know all the staff were surprised when they realised who had been in the store. If we had known Prince Harry was in the store, we would have arranged something special with the RAF commander of the base.”

Filtered down to Mac
We’ve highlighted Filter (the automatic playlist generator) before, but now we’re happy to report that the previously PC-only piece of software is to be made available to Mac users from 19 March. For more information on Filter, go here.

iPod thieves sent to jail
Three men who attempted to steal nearly 40 iPods from a store in Utah have been sentenced to up to five years in prison. Not staggering news we’d admit, but it’s the way they tried to steal them that amused us. Two of the men distracted the store’s employees, while the third opened a display case and stuffed the ipods into a specially designed pair of oversized jeans. The trousers were lined with a special material to fool the magnetic detectors at the store’s exit and the trousers were tied at the bottom to prevent the iPods falling out. And they would’ve gotten away with it if it wasn’t for those meddling kids…

If it's iPod-related and interesting, then we'll cover it
