TV shows coming, but not through iTunes

The BBC has announced its plans to create a online portal for TV shows that would be similar to iTunes, and is currently courting other broadcasters to join them.

John Smith, the Chief Executive of BBC Worldwide, said in the Financial Times that the company’s new online viewing service (iPlayer) could be developed to handle a wider range of content.

"iPlayer could be like Freeview in creating a new digital platform for broadcasters, giving them a chance to control their own destiny, but like Sky in its opportunities for monetization,” said the paper.

Unfortunately for Mac users though, it would appear that iPlayer is only going to be available for Windows-based computers, although a petition has been set up on the Downing Street website in an attempt to get the BBC to reverse that decision.
