Aircraft to use iPod as ‘black box’ recorder

LoPresti, the manufacturers of the FURY plane, have announced that they’re integrating iPods into the aircraft’s systems for a multitude of ingenious reasons.
According to the press release on the LoPresti site, the iPod integration has three major advantages over traditional black box recorders:
1. The iPod will be able to record over 500 hours of flight time, making it the first portable flight recorder.
2. As it’s being used as an audio recorder, it will also be able to capture and replay audio on demand – so it can also be used for two-way audio transmissions.
3. It’s removable and cheap to replace, another first for black box-type recorders.
So there you have it. If you (like us, obviously) are planning on upgrading your light aircraft this year, then now you have the perfect excuse to buy another iPod, too.
And we also want it put on the record that this is the third story this week about iPods and planes, which must surely be some sort of record...
