Crowds gather for new Apple Store
Dean Mortlock
0 comments 13 February 2007
Around a thousand people braved Southampton West Quay shopping centre to attend the opening of the latest Apple Store. And we were there to take pictures…
In the pursuit of dedication to the site, we managed to get up early enough to make it to the West Quay shopping centre for 8am. We took some photos, handed out a load of fliers for the site and managed not to wince or gag openly when the staff high-fived and whooped their way down the queue – there really should be a law against grown-ups doing silly things like that.
The mood was contagious though, and as 9 o’clock arrived and the gates were flung open, it was impossible not to be impressed by Apple’s small (but perfectly formed) new store.
Bargains were few and far between, but the first thousand into the store did walk away with a boxed Apple T-shirt and the chance to play on loads of box-fresh Mac and iPod kit – which is surely worth queuing up for on its own.

And if you’re particularly bored (or have an unnatural love of queues) and you want to watch someone’s video of the queue for the Southampton store, then go here.
