New patent application from Apple

But what exactly is it? New information from America’s Patent & Trademark Office hints at a possible wireless link up between a portable device and the iTunes Store.
The patent application, which was published yesterday, is entitled ‘Configuration of a computing device in a secure manner’, and goes on to describe how an iPod or ‘cellular phone’ could be used to access the iTunes Store remotely. Rather than link directly with a server though, it would appear from the illustrations that the Patent Office released, that the connection is done via a computer.
There was a time last year when it seemed like Apple were releasing a new patent application, but to be honest, we expected things to calm down a bit since the announcement of the iPhone. Not so, as Apple are clearly a company who aren’t prepared to sit and wait for the rest of the technology industry to catch up with them.
Last week we reported on how Starbucks will be introducing downloads through their cafes, which are likely to be wirelessly transmitted, so is this another hint to a wireless iPod in the future? Let’s hope so.
