My iPod’s battery is completely dead – how do I go about replacing it?

The iPod’s battery is like any other rechargeable battery, in that it has a limited life span – Apple reckon that you can expect between 300-500 charges from it. If yours appears to be pushing up the daisies then it can (thankfully) be replaced quickly and cheaply. There are several things you can do and, as you’d expect, the costs vary between them. If you fancy going down the official route, then Apple do its very-own battery replacement service (click here), which will set you back £49 (or $59 in the US). Shop around though, and you should find it a bit cheaper. In the US, for example, you should check out iPod ResQ, who are one of the longest serving and most competitively priced companies around. If you want to get your hands dirty, then you can buy kits to do-it-yourself. The best service in the UK is probably through the iPod Doctor, where you can pick up a kit from just £14.99. You get full instructions with the pack and it’s pretty straightforward to do. The iPod Doctor also does a replacement service if you’re worried about damaging your iPod.
