YouTube coming to Apple TV

Apple revealed yesterday that a software update will be released in mid-June that will allow Apple TV users to stream YouTube videos through their televisions.
“This is the first time users can easily browse, find and watch YouTube videos right from their living room couch, and it’s really, really fun,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “YouTube is a worldwide sensation, and Apple TV is bringing it directly from the Internet onto the widescreen TV in your living room.”
To ensure the best possible video quality, Apple are currently converting YouTube videos to the Apple TV-friendly H.264 format. The workload involved with this means that only a selection of the best will be initially available, with Apple hoping to get the full library converted by the autumn. All new video submissions to YouTube will be converted automatically.
Apple also used this as an opportunity to announce a new Apple TV with a 160GB hard drive, giving you the ability to store up to 200 hours of video, 36,000 songs or 25,000 photos. The larger Apple TV will retail for $399, but you can still purchase the smaller 40GB model for $299 (£199). At the time of writing, the larger variation of Apple TV is unavailable in Europe.
iPlay Opinion This is a genius move from Apple, especially for video-starved Apple fans outside of the US. With access to the massive YouTube library for free and through your TV, we suspect that Apple TV will become another success story for Apple.
Our only concern is with the video quality, which is passable on a small window on your computer, but could look dreadful on a large TV. As long as Apple can get the H.264 coding done correctly though, we should see some improvement in video resolution and quality.

You are right. This is a brilliant move by Apple. There are loads of TV shows and films on YouTube and it makes me think again about buying one.
