Apple finally go green
James Oakwood

After mounting pressure from environmental groups, Apple have finally made their plans for a greener company public, via an online letter from Steve Jobs.
In the letter, Jobs announced Apple’s plans to launch a global iPod recycling scheme and pointed out that Apple already accept broken or unwanted iPods for recycling in all their US stores.
iPod owners can take their old iPods in and have them disposed of free or charge and are also offered a 10 per cent discount on a new iPod at the same time. Now though, Apple are opening this scheme up to Apple stores around the world.
"This summer we’re expanding the scheme to Apple retail stores worldwide, and we’re also extending it to include free shipping from anywhere in the US," he announced, adding, "no product purchases are required for any of our free take back programs."
The letter also deals with Apple’s overall recycling strategy and how they plan on phasing out potentially dangerous chemicals used in the iPod production process.
