Are The Beatles finally about to go digital?

When the dispute between the two Apples was finally resolved, hopes were high for a quick release of The Beatles back catalogue, but has one retailer been too hasty?
A press release recently appeared on the digital music site Wippit, that claimed that The Beatles would be releasing their back catalogue soon and they would be the first site to host it. It was quickly removed on EMI’s request, but representatives from Wippit are adamant that an official announcement is imminent.
Famously, Wippit’s CEO, Paul Meyers, has been quoted as saying: I will give [The Beatles company] Apple Corps half of my business if they allowed Wippit to sell The Beatles exclusively."
While this story is more likely to have been created to generate publicity for Wippit, rather than tip off the world that Wippit have been granted an online exclusive for The Beatles’ digital library, they are promising an announcement any day now, so it might be wise to keep an eye on the iTunes Store.
