Reward scheme launched for credit card users, new Flash technology from Intel, crime warning from the London police and licensing rumours for Apple’s Multi-Touch…
Apple to license Multi-Touch technology? Are Apple considering licensing their unique Multi-Touch technology? The CrunchGear website seems to think so. They’ve talked to an insider at Apple, who claims that it’s a definite consideration, having read something in an email that said ‘Licensing for the iPhone’. While it’s probably unlikely (remember, Apple are a company who are notoriously guarded about their technological developments), it’s a business model that’s worked very successfully for Microsoft. Earn iTunes ‘music points’ with MasterCard Holders of the Citi Platinum MasterCard can now earn special iTunes ‘music points’ every time they make a purchase with their credit card. For every £1 they spend they’re rewarded with a single point and when they’ve collected enough points they can be exchanged for music downloads, voucher cards or an iPod nano. Card holders will need to collect 150 points for a single track, 400 for a music video, 1,500 for an album and 15,000 for a nano. New customers that make £250 worth of sales in their first three months will be entitled to 2,000 bonus points, though. [Story via Finextra]
New Flash storage from Intel Intel released a new storage device on Monday based on Flash memory that they claim will be the natural successor to hard drive-based MP3 players. By as early as next year, Intel believe that they’ll have the technology to supply memory chips with capacities of 80GB and 160GB. While Flash memory is still considerably more expensive than an in-built hard drive, the mood is definitely swinging more towards memory chips, as they’re sturdier, smaller and access information far quicker – making them perfect for laptop computers and, more interestingly, portable media players. This adds more fuel to the rumours that Apple are planning to move away from hard drive memory storage towards the end of 2007.
They want your Pod! Police in Brixton have launched an awareness campaign to remind people of the potential hazards of openly displaying iPods on the London streets. Bright yellow posters have been put up across the whole borough with the words ‘They want your Pod!’ across the top, in the hope that this warning could help to reduce petty crime.
