Zuma is a popular name. While you’re unlikely to call one of your children it, it is a hugely popular mobile phone game, a fancy restaurant in London, the former Deputy President of South Africa and now, finally, a game for your iPod.

Based wholly on the mobile phone game (rather than the restaurant), Zuma has you playing a frog in the middle of a screen. Snaking its way around you is a slow-moving chain of different-coloured balls, and the object is to match the balls you fire from the frog’s mouth with a sequence in the chain – thus destroying them.

It’s a simple premise, but like the very best puzzle games, its simplicity is its ultimate strength. As the levels get progressively harder, knocking out the balls before they reach the end of the line becomes a frantic dash and, as you’d expect, this is another game that’s perfect for the iPod’s wheel – so you can’t blame your failures on the control system.

Simple to play and hard to put down, Zuma is a classic puzzler.

You get more points for wiping out combos of chains, so it’s worth setting up these combos when you’ve got the time to.
If you don’t need the colour your frog is about to fire out then you can simply launch it off-screen to get a fresh ball.
Alternatively, pressing fast-forward or rewind (right or left) will swap the ball for a different coloured one.
The coins will give you a massive point bonus, as well as helping to fill up your Zuma bar.
Fill up the Zuma bar and the colour of it will change from orange to green and no new balls will appear onscreen.
