If you’ve ever played the in-built Solitaire game on your iPod, then you might rightly question why on Earth you should consider spending another four dollars (or three pounds) on another version. And you’d be right to question it.
Royal Solitaire is aptly named, as it’s like a posh version of the one you get for free on your iPod. For starters, you get a total of ten Solitaire games (including Klondike, Yukon, Golf and FreeCell), faultless presentation throughout and a moderately advanced control system that suggests possible moves – and therefore eliminating the need for endless cursor movement.
At the end of the day though, card games simply aren’t suited to a tiny screen and a scrolling clickwheel. The overall shine in the games is welcome and dedicated Solitaire fans might persevere with the control system, but we suspect that many people simply won’t bother.
