With the rising popularity of online gambling (and Poker in particular), it’s probably not a huge surprise to see a version of the current favourite, Texas Hold ’Em, being among the first batch of iPod games.

It doesn’t really matter if you’ve never played the game before though, as the rules are pretty easy to pick up and there’s a detailed tutorial mode you can play through which more than adequately explains the basics. After that, you simply throw yourself into the tournaments – which start easy enough and quickly graduate to larger, more difficult battles.

On the downside, don’t expect the iPod’s motley crew of computer-generated players to give you anything like a challenging game of Poker. They might twitch occasionally, but you never know if that’s down to the fact they’re trying to bluff you or just poor animation.

A good version of a classic card game, but weak AI spoils it slightly.

Go to the Options menu, select Player and then New Player. Now enter YOUCHEAT and press and hold down the centre button until ‘SECRET’ appears onscreen. You’ll now get a cheat menu.
Enter your name as ALLCHARS to unlock all the secret characters.
For a range of different tournaments to unlock, enter PLAYDOGS, BIGROCKS, SPACEACE, BARTUNES or THREEAMI.
Watch your opponents, as they'll occasionally give you clues to what they're really holding.
The players holding two good high cards will have the best chance to get a winning hand or a draw to the best hand after the flop.
The scores above are the highest Pots won on the first round, Cupertino.
The strongest starting hands are high pairs, like Aces, Kings, Queens, Jacks or 10s.
Take a chance, even if you don't have a strong hand - bluffing can get you quite far sometimes.
