The problem is that while the US has multiple TV stations looking to sell their wares, we’ve only got a few, and the BBC and ITV are both looking into ways of downloading their own content, rather than licensing it out to Apple (in fact, it’s likely at the time of writing that the BBC are working with Microsoft with regard to downloadable video content). Also, as most of the content on satellite and cable stations is licensed from the US, all sorts of complicated issues arise, meaning that we’re stuck with what we’ve got for now. Conditions are improving, though. Apple have recently started downloadable movies on the US iTunes Store, and every indication is that the service will hop over to Europe sometime early in 2007. Thankfully though, there’s enough free video content online to fill a thousand iPods – Archive.org, Google Video and NZShortfilm.com should be more than enough to get you started. |
