There’s been a lot of online discussions (too many, we suspect) concerning whether or not iTunes’ Shuffle mode is actually that random at all – especially when you consider that iTunes now has a ‘Smart Shuffle’ option, which allows you to alter the chance of you hearing multiple tracks from the same album or artist. Apple has always sworn that its Shuffle mode is 100 per cent random and the fact that you’ll hear several tracks from the same artist in a row is testament to that. To make Shuffle feel more random though, we suggest that you go to iTunes’ Preferences and then Playback for the Smart Shuffle options. There you just move the sliding bar to make it more or less likely that you’ll multiple songs from the same artist. So, although it hardly makes sense when you think about it logically, with Smart Shuffle you’re actually making the Shuffle mode less random to make it feel more random. |
