Is it important to back up your iTunes library?

If your iPod is synced to your iTunes library, then it’s not essential, as you can always re-import the contents of your iPod back onto your computer. But if you manually update your iPod, then it’s very important that you back up your iTunes library. In the bad old days, that meant having to change the Disc Format at Preferences > Advanced > Burning to Data CD, but now you can simply go to File > Back Up to Disc and then choose from backing up your whole library, just your iTunes Store purchases or only items added since your last back up. If your library exceeds the amount of space on the CD or DVD you use, iTunes will automatically pause the back up process until you’re able to change discs.
