Apple’s call to arms to crush DRM

James Oakwood
0 comments  30 April 2007

Apple have sent out a notice to all their iTunes partners informing them that, from May, they’ll be able to offer DRM-free music and videos on the iTunes Store.

The notice, which was targeted more at the smaller independent labels than the major ones, said the following:

Many of you have reached out to iTunes to find out how you can make your songs available higher quality and DRM-free. Starting next month, iTunes will begin offering higher-quality, DRM-free music and DRM-free music videos to all customers.

EMI announced recently that the company would be offering their entire digital catalogue without DRM for the iTunes Store, and Apple are currently in negotiations with the three major labels to do the same.
