MGM films added to US iTunes Store

Another movie studio has bowed to the pressure from Steve Jobs and has added a selection from its back catalogue to the iTunes Store.

MGM have added a limited range of its older films to the iTunes Store in America with immediate effect. Apple promise that more titles from the studio will be included over the coming weeks. In total, Apple claim that they now have over 500 movies for sale on the iTunes Store and have sold over two million films.

While there’s no denying that MGM have a wide selection of classic films at their disposal, we’ll be happier when the studios start adding more recent releases, too.

It’s rumoured that Wal-Mart (who recently launched a movie download service of their own) put pressure on the film companies to make sure that they didn’t include newer films if they signed up with Apple’s iTunes Store.

Of the limited selection added, we recommend that our US readers plump for the following:

Rocky
The original and still the best.

Mad Max
He’s mad and his name is Max – a brutal look at an alternative future where fuel is in short supply.

Robocop
A brilliant satire, an explosive action movie, or both? Download it and decide for yourself.

All MGM films are available for the price of $9.99. Those in the UK can preview the new titles by opening up iTunes and changing the default country on the pull-down menu at the bottom of the main Store window.
