iPod and iPhone market to double by 2010

Analysts expect the consumer electronics market to grow massively over the next few years, and they predict that Apple will still be number one with iPod and iPhone.
It must be hard to be an analyst. 90 per cent of the time people accuse you of making up news to justify your job title, but when you claim something positive, we make out that you’re geniuses.
The analysts at iSuppli are obviously geniuses, as they claim that new research shows that the iPod and iPhone markets will grow at around 13 per cent a year – despite the fact that the iPhone hasn’t even been released yet.
"A major driving factor behind this growth is the fact that PMP/MP3 players take advantage of the Internet more than other consumer electronic devices, giving users the ability to quickly and easily sample, acquire and share media," says Chris Crotty, senior analyst for consumer electronics at iSuppli. "Other reasons for the rapid market expansion include the expanding catalogue of available content and component cost reductions that are making the players more affordable for consumers."
Cutting through the marketing speak, Crotty is basically saying that the iPod and iPhone should continue to dominate the market – even over mobile phones – as they’re becoming more affordable all the time and, with software such as iTunes, they make it much easier to find and share music via the Internet.
